Teaser Time

February 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment

So my roommate is working on learning to edit and he’s throwing together a little film of our 2009/2010 season this summer, so he put together a little preview of what it’s going to be like. It’s all park shots right now because we have no snow to film anything in the street but hopefully soon we’ll be heading back to Saskatchewan to get some shots since they have piles of snow there. The film is going to be called Keep the Stoke and it features local Vernon and Silver Star riders, enjoy…

Sister Act

January 26, 2010 · Leave a Comment

“Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of.  You know whatever you do, they’ll still be there.”  -Amy Li

My sister flew out to Vernon to visit this weekend and do some riding up at Silver Star. We went out for night riding on friday night but it was so ridiculously busy that we just ended up wandering around the village for most of the night. We chilled on Saturday and went up to the Vernon SPCA to walk some dogs in our spare time and then enjoyed a bit too much baby duck to end the night. Sunday we got up, made some delicious buttermilk pancakes and then headed up to Silver Star again for the day. It was a perfect bluebird day, and you could see forever. I was so excited that Sadie got a nice day to be up there to take photos. The conditions are a little bit icy right now but in general the riding is still good compared to what they have in Saskatchewan. Here’s some photos from our day…

If you haven’t heard…

Think Thank visited Silver Star…awesome!

and Yobeat has a story that you should check out, “Snowboarding Is Not A Crime”

It’s pretty ridiculous actually, I mean what’s so dangerous about snowboarding in a public park? If anything he was definitely helping kids out and keeping them out of harm’s way. Those park rangers pulled a serious power trip on them, and someone needs to straight up tell that lady park ranger where to stick it. Ugh okay rant done…

Avran over at Angrysnowboarder has got the 2011 stepchild preview up for you to check out. Simon Chamberlain’s board graphic is by far my favourite, although the ‘whale cock’ is a close second…

Finally an Edit!

January 20, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The boys had an editting date this weekend and they managed to pull together enough footage to put together this little clip of Matt. I think they’re planning on adding parts for all of our roommates, including a bail reel for Scaff…stay tuned! For now though here’s Matt Bergen’s part, it was edited by Jeff Barrett. Enjoy!

I’ve also got some random photos to toss up. Once again our good buddy Fej stopped by to crash on our couch for a few days and hooked me up with some new dragon rogue’s with skull candy’s, I’m pretty pumped on them right now… I definitely needed some new goggles! We’ve mostly been riding Silver Star for the past few days, I’ve been trying to learn to film better. (I filmed part of matt’s edit, yay!) My sister is coming out to visit for a few days starting friday so I think we’ll probably hit up some $5 night skiing at big white which is super fun cause they have a killer mini park, and then just ride at Silver Star for a day or two as well. I’m super excited that she’s coming out to visit because I’ve been so stressed out lately. We ran into some roommate problems the last couple weeks and Becks headed home, I’m definitely missing my old riding buddy now that she’s gone…then to make matters worse my car got broken into and my Sirius radio, all my cds, and my car manual were stolen out of my car. I’m almost ready to call it quits and head back to Saskatchewan already… boooo! But anyways here’s some pictures from the last couple of weeks.

Catching Up

January 2, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Good morning! So I haven’t been updating my blog very much lately, I just haven’t been making the time for it but it’s the new year and I promise I’m going to try to keep it together now! So now it’s catch up time… I’ve been riding Silver Star and Big White for the past two months, with a bit of a break inbetween when I headed back home to Saskatchewan to spend Christmas with my family. Christmas was sweet, I got a couple of riding days in at Asessippi while I was home. It was the same old, same old there… they repainted their park features though and they look pretty sweet now although the actual set up of them sucks a little bit. They’re definitely not maintained at all, kind of a let down since it’s such a small park. Anyways, I got tonsilitis while I was home again!!! Booo I know… trying eating Christmas dinner when your throat looks like raw hamburger. Trust me it’s the worst feeling ever!

I got a day of riding in at Asessippi with my older sister Sadie as well. It’s pretty rare that Sadie and I get to snowboard together anymore which sucks because she’s such a kick ass freerider! She actually taught me how to snowboard when I was little, I definitely know I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for her!

After Christmas I headed back to Vernon with Becky, Matt, and Becky’s boyfriend Paul. We got another sweet day of riding in at Big White, we hit Gem Lake and the Easter Chutes and they were both pretty decent. Then it was onto new years celebrations! We got together a little group of friends and climbed Silver Star to celebrateand enjoy some bubbly and then we rode down at midnight, getting first runs of 2010! It was pretty sweet and we had an awesome view of the village while we were climbing.

Other than all that there’s some random happenings like the Sun Peaks contest, which was a super fun set up! I don’t really have any pictures from that. I did find this one picture of Matt, but I can’t find out who took it…so there’s no photo credit for now.

Then here are a couple pictures of Becky and I on the backside of Silver Star. There really wasn’t great snow the day these pictures were taken… actually it was pretty much pure ice!

I got an email from CSF’s Women in Snowboarding program the other day, and there is a female only basic coaching course at Whistler-Blackcomb January 8th to 10th. Check out this site for more information and registration details

Finally!

December 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So after three weeks we finally got our internet hooked up! I’m pumped to have a reliable connection again, I’d been “borrowing” internet from a neighbour who kept kicking me off his network. It was the worst, I couldn’t access my banking, my phone info, this site… anything bascially! It also made job hunting really hard since I would get half of an online application filled out and my internet would just disappear on me, pretty frustrating! Anyways here’s a rundown on what’s been happening lately! We’ve been riding pretty much everyday, and Becky showed up on Friday… we had a little welcoming party for her and then the boys were off to Mt. Seymour in the morning for Rome’s Premature Jibulation contest. Sounds like they did pretty good overall, Tyy took a 3rd place and Bergen came home with a flask that he was stoked on. They’re headed to Sun Peaks on friday to film a bit and then they’re going to ride the Block Party Rail Jam on Saturday night. (Sun Peaks Contest info here) I’m considering going to that one since it would be my first contest of the season… I don’t really have any tricks ready for it though so I’m not sure what will happen. Oh Ty Clark also made a edit from the filming that he did with my roommate Matt the other day, so you should check it out!

Other than that there’s not much to tell you right now…I might put some pictures up later…

Delayed post!

November 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Welcome to Vernon, BC folks. Matt & I left on Monday and headed to Calgary where we met up with my friend Nora, who is super sweet. We enjoyed a few bottles of wine and then we were off to Sunshine Village in the morning. Sunshine was unreal, it snowed the whole time we were there and Matt and I managed to get pretty stuck in spots that were waist deep. Overall fun day, but there’s only one picture of matt from the end of the day since I forgot my camera in the car that morning.

After that we headed for Vernon, we made a few stops along the way… We stopped in Revelstoke for some food and a stretch (it’s a 6 hour drive from calgary!) Then we continued on our way and stopped at a small town bar called “The Burner” on the #1 between Vernon and Sicamous. It was a pretty cool little place. It was decorated with old logging saws and like giant 4 foot chain saws. Pretty intense decorating, but everyone there was really nice and it was worth stopping. The sign is ghetto and it made me think twice about stopping when we pulled up but it was all good once you got inside!

After that we headed to Vernon and unpacked and met our “upstairs roomie” a pretty sweet guy from Ontario named Jeff. He’s still waiting for the rest of his roommates to show up too. We were in Vernon for like 2 hours before Matt’s Kelowna friends called and we were off to session a pvc pipe on the other side of Vernon. Pretty sweet setup overall… I crashed lots and got some pretty sweet hip bruises. After that we basically just spent the next couple of days riding big white and having drinks with some new friends. (ps I wrote this on monday but didn’t get it posted until today!) We got some really foggy snowy days and then on tuesday it was crazy foggy and then just BAM it switched to bluebird and was the best riding I’ve gotten yet!
