all I’m saying is…

April 28, 2009 · 1 Comment

So there’s been an explosion of women specific products within the last few years. Finally almost all companies have women’s boards/bindings/boots! I realize that some companies have been offering them for quite some time while others have just jumped on the bandwagon. This of course is great, female riders now have almost as many choices as the guys do. Everyone has a different style or preference when it comes to their gear and now they can find products that fit them best instead of a one-size-one-color fits all type of product.

Interesting thought, when I bought my first setup I bought a pair of yellow airwalk boots, because they were basically the only women’s boots avaliable at the time. Seriously, I rode those boots, my sister had the exact same pair, as did two of our girlfriends. Basically every girl that rode at our resort had the same pair of boots. I can actually remember coloring the logos blue on mine so that I wouldn’t get them mixed up with anyone else’s boots. How ridiculous is that? Now we all ride different brands and styles based on the kind of riders we became. So every year I get excited when more new women’s products come out in the industry, eeeee so exciting! ha.

BUT there’s one trend in women’s gear that I have to call out. There’s several companies out there that are putting a product out in a pink colorway and labeling it as a women’s product just for the color. I’m not talking about B4BC here, that’s a totally different thing and I support them completely. What they’re doing is amazing. No I’m talking about the companies who put out a pink product just because sterotypically girls like pink, so girls will buy it right? hmm, maybe? I’m talking about products that are labeled women’s products when they are exactly the same as men’s products, only pinker. Example A – http://business.transworld.net/2009/02/18/betty-rides-launches-new-accessories/, the pretty betty snowboard tool. Kuu, Dakine, Burton, etc. have been putting out this exact same tool for years and years now, but wait…Betty Rides made it pink! that must mean it’s made especially for women! Look I’m not trying to hate here…I’m just saying, put the marketing money that you’re spending on those lame-o products into actually developing products that really make a difference in women’s riding. Whether or not my tool is pink or black or yellow will not make a difference to me. But having boots or outwear that are tailored to a women’s shape and style will make a difference.

Maybe you disagree, how do you feel about the current status of women’s products within our industry? Or if you don’t care…that’s cool too.

Keep a Breast…

I stumbled upon this on the SBC Women’s site yesterday and couldn’t help but share since breast cancer has touched the lives of so many people that I know and love. Here’s the scoop, Westbeach is designing a jacket which features user submitted photos of their breasts for the inside liner design. Covered up or nude, whichever your preference is. They want your photos now! The deal is that 30% of online sales, and 10% of retail sales of the jacket will go towards the Keep-A-Breast organization and for your contribution you get entered into a draw to win the jacket when it’s released in fall 2010. There is also a mention of a monthly draw? So ladies think about it, the jacket is not going to be released this fall but the contest closes June 30, 2009. You can submit photos to keepabreast@westbeach.com.

Here’s the requirements: Westbeach is inviting any ladies over the age of 18 that are interested in participating in this project to submit a photo of your breast, nude or wearing a bra to contribute to the lining print art work. Keeping with the anonymous theme please don’t show your face in the photo (example below). Your photo should be a clear front chest shot, please no side or back shots. Image dimensions required:
Minimum 4×4” (10×10cm) and 300dpi (Try to shoot in good light with a flash and avoid using phone-cameras).

I wanna run baby run
Like a stream down a mountainside
With the wind at my back
I don’t ever even bat an eye
Just know it was you all along
Who had a hold of my heart
But the demon and me
Were the best of friends from the start

Things I Love Thursday.

April 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

King of Leon – Only By The Night: I haven’t bought a cd in ages, but for some reason yesterday I picked this one up and listened to it all the way through, start to finish, while I was driving home. It was good, really, really, really good!

♥ The Submarines - You, me and the bourgeoisie: the lyrics rock, enough said.

♥ Late nights with old friends: this one was a given this week. Martini bars with random pilots, scottish pubs with spicy food and good friends, classy establishments with the gypsy/regina girlfriends! Too many drinks, too much fun.

♥ Being Home: I moved back home to my small town of Churchbridge yesterday. I love the open space and being able to breathe in the fresh air as cliche as that sounds. Plus being able to jog down back roads in the spring is amazing

♥ Finishing My University Exams: Best feeling ever, it’s like a huge weight is lifted off your shoulders. I did alright on them, no complaints really. I don’t get that stressed or nervous over them, they just feeling like it’s something that’s hanging over you! I actually have one exam left but I think I’ll do well on it so it’s all good.

♥ Making Summer Plans: Xavier Rudd is playing in Saskatoon on July 9th, I’m so there! There’s already a few of us that are totally commited to going so it should be awesome. It’s two days before Naomi and Al’s wedding, but it sounds like Naomi is coming…YAY! Uhm who wants to be my wedding date? :)

But that’s it for now!

passion.

April 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

“If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.”  -Benjamin Franklin

banff plan, suspended. for a week atleast… plans fell through, I need to get my life organized at this end of things. I currently have no bed, no room, no place for stuff…it’s ridiculous and it sucks. I need to paint and unpack and pack other people’s stuff up to make some space for myself. In other news, I may have kings of leon tickets for edmonton in august. hmm random. back to life now, nora is going to want to kill me. sucky stuff. I’ll make it there before she takes off to australia tho!

just as a sidenote, I had a stand off with my mother over my life plans yesterday and she actually said to me: “I wish you had never seen a snowboard, it’s messed your head up competely!” I think I was angry for like five seconds and then I couldn’t help but laugh at that. She doesn’t quite understand my love for the sport or why I want to take time off school to get involved with it more. She’s believes that I’m throwing my life away, aka. she doesn’t believe I’ll finish my degree. I understand and appreciate everything they’ve done  to help me out so far but there’s a point where it becomes MY life with MY decisions. I can’t throw away the things I want to do just to make other people happy because then you just end up paying for it, no regrets right? Oh yah, I’ve been talking to mira about whistler via a facebook thread that’s like 50 messages long already. She’s pumped on it, but she won’t be bar age there…which kinda of puts a block on the plans. daaang.

Today I got a fortune cookie that told me,

“Get your mind set and confidence will lead you on.”

awesome, awesome, awesome! Oh and I bought the Beatles – Abbey Road cd to cruise home too. Basically it was a really good day, let’s hope that tomorrow keeps up the trend.
