“Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Mt. Norquay get snow…”

Ohhh yes! This was almost a week ago already but it’s still a big deal… “Canadian shreds rejoice! Banff National Park is enjoying its first glimpse of winter, with a summer snowfall blanketing the mountains. This past week saw snow covering high-altitude areas of Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village.” Go to Snowboard Canada’s site and read the full article!
Oh did I mention I had interviews with Sunshine Village & Mt. Norquay last week? Two interviews both for snowboard instructor positions. I figured I paid $350 for my CASI course so I might as well use it. I applied at those places plus Revelstoke, Big White, and Lake Louise. Fingers crossed that I hear from Revelstoke soon. I’m getting anxious to move already, summer was good but it’s time for a change (and time to get out of this tiny town for awhile!) I’m still planning to head up to Revelstoke, but I guess we’ll see what winter brings…
(p.s. the recruiter for Sunshine village is the nicest person to talk too, ever! Even my current boss said that after she called for a reference check)
and Mt. Norquay is having a halloween party to kick off the season, fuuuun!!

So Dani put these up on facebook today! I stole them off facebook for now, I’ll have to get the better quality ones from here later. There’s a ton more on here facebook… she even managed to sneak a wake up picture of me in there (yes I look like hell…haha) Anyways here’s some randoms I picked from the album she made! enjoy.

We both ended up wearing blue jackets all weekend, like a team or something.. this was on the drive up, 10 hours in the car wears you down fast and destroys any attempt you made at having good hair.
We hadn’t even been in our hotel for 20 mins and it looked like this. STUFF EVERYWHERES!

Getting ready to head to sunshine… sporting the 50 layers and a VV $1 big white resort bandana that makes my life complete. It has skiiers all the way around..amaaazin’
top of the continental chair at sunshine.

top of continental again

top of standish I think

mid eating picture… lookin bitter or blind?

day two, mt.standish chair

we stopped for a beer.. tryin’ to be cute but just looking exhausted!

chill time…

This picture makes me smile… I’m definitely in my happy place.

I crashed…sleepy time!
yup thats it.. it was an awesome trip. I love the mountains, I have no idea why I’m not still there…soon like three months!

k so here’s some other random stuff I found out about over the weekend, and I’m too lazy to make a new post for each thing… so deal with it.
Switchboard, Coors Light Trauma Series, and MTS Present: Rockin’ the District Block Party

June 19th and 20th – This year swollen members is the headlining act. Basically it’s two days of awesomness held in downtown Winnipeg, MB. It’s put on partly by the Switchboard. I never made it last year but I heard super good things about it and everyone said that it’s worth the drive. There’s a wakeboarding demo, some modelling, maybe a random wedding, some fun music, and a lot of drunkeness. So check it out if you’re in town. I’ll post more details when I get them.

Cube Please?

I’m more or less in love with the new nissan cube. I got to check one out at a dealership yesterday, and it’s probably the coolest ugly car I’ve ever seen. I would totally embarrass my friends and make them cruise with me in that. I want one, seriously. I wanted a jetta more…but I’m gonna see what they’d give me for a trade in price on my cougar. If it’s decent I might go for it.
Plans for Fall

so it’s official I’m moving west this fall to work and snowboard. I’m taking a year off of university to do something I’ve always wanted to do! I’m very excited. At first I was only going to do it if this person or that person did, bu now I’m going for myself and I’m very excited about it. I finally feel like it’s time to go, up until now I was very on the fence about it and I know that I will still wonder a bit as summer goes on, but it’s actually never felt more ‘right’ than it does now. My family and friends are behind me this time and I’m ready to leave like NOW! haha but the biggest decision is where to go. I’ve basically narrowed it down to Banff or Revelstoke. So I’m looking for opinions…I’ve been to banff and rode sunshine lots but I’ve never been to lake louise or mt.norquay. I’ve also never ever been to Revelstoke. So I need some help here… I’m not asking anyone to tell me where to go. I’m just asking for your opinion or experiances with either place…or if you’ve never been to either one, tell me about a resort you have been to and fell in love with (it could be anywheres)!

so I got back to churchbridge this evening after the 12 hour drive home from banff today. It rained most of the way home and Dani and I were so tired that it felt like a very long trip. Last day of riding was yesterday, the snow was slushy and impossible to move on so Dani gave up in the afternoon and had a siesta by the river. Ryan drove down from Jasper and met up with me in the afternoon for a few park laps. We only got a couple in before they closed it down. I forgot how much fun it is to ride with Ryan! he’s always helped me progress..so I was sooo excited to see him. He never disappoints and he definitely made my day when he showed up in a yellow one piece analog suit. He’s been working in the park in Jasper for the past couple of years so I struggled a bit to keep up with him yesterday. The fact that I’ve been in the ‘weekend warrior’ category for a few years really showed when I was riding with him. Anyways it was an awesome day and dani took some pictures so hopefully I’ll have those soon. But for now I’m back to the dusty filing room at 5 am tomorrow morning, yuck.

day one is done and over, the snow was very crusty in the morning when we got up at 10am but it softened up a lot during the day. It’s been a month since I did any riding so I’ll be honest my legs were killing me all day! Dani and I worked our way through the chairs at Sunshine during the day, it was bluebird until about 2:00 and then it clouded over, got very windy, and very cold in a hurry. I cut a couple laps through the park but I was so tired I kept crashing. The park is still in good shape right now, but the jumps are a bit slow. I had trouble making it over the knuckle on the smaller ones in the first park. There was no speedchecking allowed today…we have day two tomorrow though. I think we’re going out to hoodoos or the rose and crown after supper tonight. It’s hard going out here with only two people, especially when Dani and I are a bit of an age difference, but it’ll be good either way!

“If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.” -Benjamin Franklin
banff plan, suspended. for a week atleast… plans fell through, I need to get my life organized at this end of things. I currently have no bed, no room, no place for stuff…it’s ridiculous and it sucks. I need to paint and unpack and pack other people’s stuff up to make some space for myself. In other news, I may have kings of leon tickets for edmonton in august. hmm random. back to life now, nora is going to want to kill me. sucky stuff. I’ll make it there before she takes off to australia tho!
just as a sidenote, I had a stand off with my mother over my life plans yesterday and she actually said to me: “I wish you had never seen a snowboard, it’s messed your head up competely!” I think I was angry for like five seconds and then I couldn’t help but laugh at that. She doesn’t quite understand my love for the sport or why I want to take time off school to get involved with it more. She’s believes that I’m throwing my life away, aka. she doesn’t believe I’ll finish my degree. I understand and appreciate everything they’ve done to help me out so far but there’s a point where it becomes MY life with MY decisions. I can’t throw away the things I want to do just to make other people happy because then you just end up paying for it, no regrets right? Oh yah, I’ve been talking to mira about whistler via a facebook thread that’s like 50 messages long already. She’s pumped on it, but she won’t be bar age there…which kinda of puts a block on the plans. daaang.

Kate, Mira, and Myself – Last day of Asessippi ‘09
so exams are basically done, and I couldn’t be any happier . I wasn’t stressed out, more just irritated that they had to even happen. But as for recent happenings, made a quick trip to winnipeg on friday. Spent the day shopping with Naomi, Becky, and some others for dresses for naomi’s bridesmaids. Hit up some random vintage stores, but we never quite made it to the switchboard to check the guy’s shop out. Next time for for sure. After that we grabbed some supper with Cole and Iain and then spent the night on the town…to be honest I don’t have a clue when it started or ended really, I just know that somewheres in the middle there was a martini bar that caused all the problems for me. Super fun though…you can tell it was good since there’s no pictures from it! Uhm, I’m off to banff in like 48 hours tho! Finally, oh my gosh…speaking of mountains, I had a good chat with Iain about whistler the other night and the possibility is still there. We’ll see how things go in Banff this weekend, cause it’s kind of a toss up between moving to Banff and riding mt.norquay and moving to Whistler to ride there. The scene in whistler intimidates me a little bit but I’m sure I could hold my own, it’s just hard when you don’t know anyone!
But that’s all for now… I’m off to buy a longboard, wasting more money of course
