“Having a sister is like having a best friend you can’t get rid of. You know whatever you do, they’ll still be there.” -Amy Li
My sister flew out to Vernon to visit this weekend and do some riding up at Silver Star. We went out for night riding on friday night but it was so ridiculously busy that we just ended up wandering around the village for most of the night. We chilled on Saturday and went up to the Vernon SPCA to walk some dogs in our spare time and then enjoyed a bit too much baby duck to end the night. Sunday we got up, made some delicious buttermilk pancakes and then headed up to Silver Star again for the day. It was a perfect bluebird day, and you could see forever. I was so excited that Sadie got a nice day to be up there to take photos. The conditions are a little bit icy right now but in general the riding is still good compared to what they have in Saskatchewan. Here’s some photos from our day…
The boys had an editting date this weekend and they managed to pull together enough footage to put together this little clip of Matt. I think they’re planning on adding parts for all of our roommates, including a bail reel for Scaff…stay tuned! For now though here’s Matt Bergen’s part, it was edited by Jeff Barrett. Enjoy!
I’ve also got some random photos to toss up. Once again our good buddy Fej stopped by to crash on our couch for a few days and hooked me up with some new dragon rogue’s with skull candy’s, I’m pretty pumped on them right now… I definitely needed some new goggles! We’ve mostly been riding Silver Star for the past few days, I’ve been trying to learn to film better. (I filmed part of matt’s edit, yay!) My sister is coming out to visit for a few days starting friday so I think we’ll probably hit up some $5 night skiing at big white which is super fun cause they have a killer mini park, and then just ride at Silver Star for a day or two as well. I’m super excited that she’s coming out to visit because I’ve been so stressed out lately. We ran into some roommate problems the last couple weeks and Becks headed home, I’m definitely missing my old riding buddy now that she’s gone…then to make matters worse my car got broken into and my Sirius radio, all my cds, and my car manual were stolen out of my car. I’m almost ready to call it quits and head back to Saskatchewan already… boooo! But anyways here’s some pictures from the last couple of weeks.
Welcome to Vernon, BC folks. Matt & I left on Monday and headed to Calgary where we met up with my friend Nora, who is super sweet. We enjoyed a few bottles of wine and then we were off to Sunshine Village in the morning. Sunshine was unreal, it snowed the whole time we were there and Matt and I managed to get pretty stuck in spots that were waist deep. Overall fun day, but there’s only one picture of matt from the end of the day since I forgot my camera in the car that morning.
After that we headed for Vernon, we made a few stops along the way… We stopped in Revelstoke for some food and a stretch (it’s a 6 hour drive from calgary!) Then we continued on our way and stopped at a small town bar called “The Burner” on the #1 between Vernon and Sicamous. It was a pretty cool little place. It was decorated with old logging saws and like giant 4 foot chain saws. Pretty intense decorating, but everyone there was really nice and it was worth stopping. The sign is ghetto and it made me think twice about stopping when we pulled up but it was all good once you got inside!
After that we headed to Vernon and unpacked and met our “upstairs roomie” a pretty sweet guy from Ontario named Jeff. He’s still waiting for the rest of his roommates to show up too. We were in Vernon for like 2 hours before Matt’s Kelowna friends called and we were off to session a pvc pipe on the other side of Vernon. Pretty sweet setup overall… I crashed lots and got some pretty sweet hip bruises. After that we basically just spent the next couple of days riding big white and having drinks with some new friends. (ps I wrote this on monday but didn’t get it posted until today!) We got some really foggy snowy days and then on tuesday it was crazy foggy and then just BAM it switched to bluebird and was the best riding I’ve gotten yet!
So I’m home from Vancouver! I was only there for a week, but it seemed like I had been there a lot longer. We were staying in Burnaby with a friend that knew everyone but me! Oh well I was the random on this trip but Cole/Kat was super nice and I was stoked that he let us all crash with him. Vancouver was super rainy the whole time I was there but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t beautiful, it was just a different kind of beautiful compared to home. But being honest by the time I was leaving I missed the sun, and the sunsets that I see almost everyday in Saskatchewan.
We spent the first couple of days wandering around downtown, chilling out, watching movies and just acting like we were on vacation. Becky’s brother is shooting a short film in Vancouver so that was the point of the trip. The other girls were in the movie and helping out with the boom mike. I opted out since I was leaving early and really didn’t have the commitment that they did to the project…if I’m not 100% I’d rather not be involved at all. I’d rather that they had people who really wanted to do their best, not someone who does not care nearly as much. Not that I’m trying to be a jerk about it, I just didn’t have a clue what the movie was about, or what the title even was and when I asked…I still never found out. So anyways I still hope that it works out for Cory and that he gets the shots he needs and all.
Aside from that we had some really fun times at Playland’s fright night. I’m not an amusement park type of girl but I still enjoyed fright night! I got seriously freaked out by some walking creepers and we got some sweet giant buttons for memories. My high school friend Lynette joined us that night and it was definitely one of my favourite experiences on the trip! We also met up with the other girl’s friend Zach, (who is a babe fyi) and his friend who joined us for supper at Marcello’s and amateur comedy night at Zawa’s. The pesto pizza at Marcello’s was fantastic, and we also got told the whole story of the restaurant by a chatty NYC music teacher and his hilarious wife. They also pointed out the finer points of pesto to us…I was loving it! Zawas was pretty good and some of the comedians we fantastic, and others were just straight up vulgar/rude and I wasn’t diggin’ it at all!
We made a quick stop in Lake Louise!
We also spent some time wandering around Granville Island Public Market. I fell in love with the little bakery display in my pictures because it’s exactly what I want someday in my little dream bakery/cafe! So cute and so delicious looking! We also made it to check out English Bay as the sun was setting (even though we couldn’t see the sun!)
There was definitely some stressful moments on the trip, like saturday morning…Becky and I decided to drive to Kelowna for the Big White job fair. We never made it to Kelowna. We only made it as far as Merritt before we got into a car accident. It consisted of an unexpected exit ramp going double the speed limit and some pouring rain. We ended up in a spin on the ramp and hit the guard rail and then the ditch but we’re both fine and very lucky because we could have been hurt a lot worse (or even dead…scary) I was on the passenger side where we hit the edge and we barely missed hitting a pole! It was unbelievably scary! After that we had to deal with the most stunned RCMP officer I’ve ever met, and two random ambulance drivers. We found some help with the car in Merritt thanks to the Cameron family, and their mechanic named Bill. We owe them a HUGE thanks, they got the car fixed up enough for us to get back to Vancouver that day.
I decided to fly home to Saskatoon on Sunday and meet up with my sister to go home. It was equally as stressful as Saturday because Becky and I got lost on our way to the airport and I almost missed my flight to Edmonton. I literally ran to my gate which was the farthest possible one from security. After I got to Edmonton it was smooth sailing though and I’m home now, just relaxing. I’m hoping to head to Regina tomorrow to pick up my car which is still at Becky’s house.
Now it’ll be onto the next adventure. Which will be moving west for the winter! I’m getting nervous about this because part of me really wants to just go and finish my university degree up already but part of me is like noo no no go enjoy the winter. Either way, I’m not going back to Regina until spring so it’s west I go. We’re trying to arrange things in Big White but right now it’s hard since I don’t have a job there. I guess Silverstar or Revelstoke could be a back up plan in case things don’t work out…I think I’ll head out next week for BC and just settle wherever I can find a job and a place to live. I don’t even care anymore I just want to ride…that’s all that matters anymore. Sucks but it’s true.

becky called tonight.
she’s making some rad clothes and chillin in regina, we made some plans to go camping sometime soon…awesome.
so she’s my shred soulmate, she has been since we took our CASI together. So I spilled my plans and concerns about moving next season and yadda yadda, & she was super good to talk to about it all!
Basically everything has beening pushing me to move to Revelstoke BC lately so I spent some time looking into it,
and yah I’m feeling that plan. Whistler would be cool but with the olympics and all I think I’m going to stay away for this season, plus I need to learn to be more than just a ‘park rat’ haha. So Revelstoke it is, I started looking at places to live and jobs and everything today. Three or so months till go time!
Becks even dropped the idea that she might be interested in coming along. I’ve actually never worked at a resort without becky!
But anyways I feel pretty relieved that this decision is made… it’s wierd, I’ve never felt so certain about anything…ever.
