Here’s a little rundown of some blog posts that I’ve been reading…

Push.ca’s Jeff Patterson on NZ“My ride was quick, and as I opened the door, my new friend yelled “throw er in the boot”..  (re: trunk)…”

Angrysnowboarder.com on “Life after Burton”- Maybe the industry does need to be in the hands of the riders, but frankly I know of very few people that are reps, work for companies, or live on the side of the mountain and work in a shop that get 200 days a year in this industry. It’s the nature of the beast you sacrifice riding days to do what you love. But if they’re off riding that many days a year what is actually getting done?”

Shayboarder.com – Industry Profile: Russell Dalby – “Shay: What was your first set up? Russell: Yashica point and shoot i think…

Lady in Shred – K2 VA VA Voom Rocker – I think I’ve decided to buy this board…yup…definitely excited! Should be interesting to try it out this year.

Gnarcore.com – Bird GANG vol 7 – The summer we got kicked off WHISTLER/BLACKCOMB – the whole time I was watching this I was like wtf? …canadian club is sick, and not in a good way. Anyways, more random crap posted on gnarcore.com from calgary’s birdgang, check out all their videos here.

South of North: Guest Post from Hoon – Burton Message Board: RIP – I was never a Burton forum user until like 2 days before they took it down, it never had any appeal for me. But none the less it is interesting to see what will happen with the new setup that they have happening, plus it’s just good writing from Hoon.

NuuLifeCinema – Zimmerman Zaturdays Contest – They’re running a contest looking for the most creative entry to win some free stuff….the entries are closed but you can go vote for your favourite now!

and basically just everything on the videograss site.

But that’s all for now…maybe I’ll have something interesting to say later…but probably not.

Revelstoke is my kind of town.

July 13, 2009 · 4 Comments

Matt Houghton’s column on Push.ca featured this little piece awhile back called Revelstoke is My Kind of Town… check it out!

“If there’s any single feeling I left with after departing Revvy, it was that I wanted to move there one day, or at least book in for an entire season. I met all kinds of people who’d done just that: rented a small house or apartment for the season, bought a pass, and put the rest of their life on temporary hold so they could ride every day. This has happened in ski towns around the world since the first rope-tow was invented, but there was truly something (cliché alert) different about Revelstoke; something that sparked the, “fuck it, I am throwing it all away to move here” kind of feelings that I haven’t experienced in years. I suppose the ultimate test will be this coming season, when I return and hope to get the same conditions again. If the snow falls as hard, I may just stick around and find myself a real estate agent.” Read the whole article on push.ca…

Is snowboarding too expensive?

Check out this article by Pete Andersen on Push.ca

“One way to keep things less debilitating on the ol’ chain wallet is to take it to the streets. Many a naysayer have scorned the Mikey Leblanc’s and L.N.P.’s of this world for their urban shred assaults, but this is a simple way to cut down on the cost of snowboarding. Replacing prematurely worn equipment and paying trespassing fines tend to offset the savings, but it is a band-aid solution to get on your board when your piggy bank is broken and discarded beside your bed; not unlike your dignity after blowing your wad at the bar. Season’s passes and instructor gigs allow you to trim down on winter expenditures, but limit your ability to visit different resorts and expand your snowboarding network, and without its ever-growing community, snowboarding would have dried up and died a long time ago. These options might be acceptable for now, but they aren’t a long term solution…” read on at push.ca
